In Lutzelhouse, in the Bruche Valley, where Alsace meets the Vosges, L’Ambre Blanc is a small artisan winery that vinifies every wine in Georgian kvevri buried in the ground behind the cellar.
From 2022 to 2025, L’Ambre Blanc worked as a négociant, selecting grapes from partner organic winegrowers and taking part directly in the vineyard work throughout the season. The grapes were then vinified in Lutzelhouse according to a philosophy of minimal intervention and close attention to the quality of the raw material.
The year 2026 marks a new chapter: L’Ambre Blanc now directly farms around 3.85 hectares on the Stierkopf, a steep south-facing slope above Mutzig, between 150 and 300 metres above sea level, on soils of marl, limestone and sandstone. Vines have been grown here for centuries, and some Riesling parcels date back to 1953.
In the vineyard, the soil is not worked: wild grasses and flowers grow naturally between the rows, alongside fruit trees, hedges and nesting boxes that help encourage biodiversity. Treatments are limited to copper and sulphur, with a gradual introduction of herbal teas and plant decoctions. Both vineyard and cellar are certified organic by Ecocert FR-BIO-01.
In the cellar, the grapes are harvested by hand and ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, without temperature control. The buried kvevri naturally provide a cool, dark environment. Many wines remain in contact with their skins for extended periods and then age in kvevri, stoneware, stainless steel or used wood. No fining, no filtration and no added sulphur.
L’Ambre Blanc is today a project in evolution: the wines produced during the négociant years tell the first chapter of the story, while the Stierkopf vineyards are now opening a new one.
L’Ambre Blanc shares the vision of Evoluzione Naturale. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear its story and taste its wines.
