La Cattiva began in 2018 in the countryside near Turi, in the province of Bari, within an eighteenth- to nineteenth-century masseria that houses the cellar and Lo Jazzo wine bar. A playful experiment quickly became a committed farming and winemaking project, driven by curiosity, ambition and a desire to make living wines.
The turning point came in 2019, when the group decided to rent vineyards and bring new energy to the masseria. La Cattiva farms seven hectares at Sammichele di Bari, managed organically since they were planted in 2000. Vineyard work and harvesting are manual, with treatments kept to a minimum and limited to copper and sulphur.
Varieties include Primitivo, Negroamaro, Aleatico, Montepulciano, Aglianico, Trebbiano, Malvasia Bianca and Malvasia Nera. The vineyards lie in the historic Primitivo di Gioia del Colle area, at 280 metres, on stony limestone soils that contribute freshness, acidity and a pronounced mineral character.
The cellar approach is uncompromising: no additives, selected yeasts or added sulphites. Fermentation is spontaneous, and each wine is patiently guided so the grapes can express their origins freely.
La Cattiva shares the vision of Evoluzione Naturale. Its wines offer a contemporary, independent and direct expression of a deep connection to the land.
