Andrea Cervini founded Vino del Poggio in Poggio Superiore, a hamlet of Travo in the Piacenza hills of Emilia-Romagna. Beginning in 2006, he drew inspiration from his winegrower uncle and from his mentor, oenologist Giulio Armani. The estate has four hectares of organically cultivated vines on clay and limestone soils, surrounded by unspoilt woodland. Its main varieties are Barbera, Bonarda and Malvasia di Candia Aromatica.
Cellar work follows traditional methods: spontaneous fermentation, long macerations and no filtration. Respect for the land and nature’s rhythms produces honest, distinctive wines made to enjoy with food. An elephant often appears on the labels, recalling the Battle of the Trebbia in 218 BC and the area’s historical identity.
