Valentina Passalacqua – Vini e Luce makes natural wines in Apricena, Puglia, at the foot of the Gargano, an area also known for its stone quarries.

Mediterranean scrub, forests, sea and salt lakes create a varied landscape. Adriatic winds cross the lakes and the Gargano’s protected countryside before reaching vineyards on limestone soils described by the estate as Kimmeridgian in origin. These conditions shape Apricena’s distinctive terroir and the estate’s approach to organic, natural production.

Founded in 2008, the estate follows Valentina’s holistic philosophy of respect for the earth and people. Its stated environmental and social commitments include wind-generated energy, lightweight bottles, recycled packaging, support for women and minority workers, and renewed appreciation of the region.

Traditional practices, including indigenous yeasts and maturation in concrete without temperature control, accompany ongoing experimentation and learning. Vineyard work is predominantly manual and cultivation organic. The wines aim for freshness, aromatic expression, mineral character and easy drinking.

Predominantly native varieties grow at 100–220 metres on two main soil types, defining two production lines: dark calcareous earth and limestone over white stones, whose reflected sunlight encourages earlier ripening. Whites, orange wines, rosés and reds are made from Aleatico, Bombino, Chardonnay, Falanghina, Greco, Nero di Troia, Negroamaro, Pinot Grigio and Primitivo.
