Podere Casaccia is a biodynamic farm on the hills of Scandicci, a few kilometres from Florence. Roberto Moretti bought the estate in 1999, driven by a love of the land and the ambition to make a wine entirely his own. Two encounters helped shape the project: biodynamic viticulture, already thriving in Tuscany, and Lucia Mori, his partner in wine and life.
Sustainable vineyard practices and restrained cellar work aim to express the land honestly. Roberto and Lucia prune each vine by hand, use biodynamic preparations and rely on spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Doing the work themselves builds an intimate understanding of their surroundings.
They have chosen to grow only native varieties, including those that became rare as lower yields and the spread of international grapes changed Tuscany’s vineyards. They selected material from sixty-year-old Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Foglia Tonda, Pugnitello and Malvasia Nera vines and grafted it into new plantings, preserving their distinctive, almost forgotten character.
The estate is also known as Sine Felle, a phrase found on a late-sixteenth-century ex libris stamp discovered in the cellar’s old foundations during restoration. Meaning ‘without bitterness’, it appears on every label and forms a thread connecting the wines. They tell stories of people, terroir, hands-on care and deep historical roots.
