Piedefermo Craftwine began in 2022 with a shared idea from Leonardo and Marco, two friends united by a passion for wine and their region. Marco brings a decade of brewing experience, including work at Opperbacco and Brewfist, and a fresh perspective on winemaking. Leonardo draws on a family farming tradition spanning generations in the hills of Notaresco, in Abruzzo’s province of Teramo.

Their wines seek to express this landscape through biodiversity and traditional methods. Fermentation is spontaneous, interventions are minimal and sulphite additions are restrained. Before harvest they prepare a pied de cuve, a small starter fermentation. This is the inspiration for the name Piedefermo—a ‘steady foot’ to guide a sometimes capricious fermentation.

The estate obtained organic certification in 2023 after completing conversion. Its 6.5 hectares of vineyards lie at 250 metres, facing south-east, and are planted mainly with native varieties: Trebbiano, Montepulciano, Pecorino, Passerina and Moscato. Wines including Bianco, Rosato and Rosso come from carefully selected grapes and winemaking that follows nature’s rhythms.

Piedefermo Craftwine shares the vision of Evoluzione Naturale. Come and discover their stories and wines.
