At the foot of Puglia’s Alta Murgia, Morasinsi is developing a diversified farm guided by regenerative agriculture. “We are independent winegrowers and farmers, with a long family tradition of working the land.” They live and farm among gentle hills, rocky ridges and a rich variety of native trees and wild plants.
“The land speaks through our hands. We have two missions, one environmental and one social. The first is to protect biodiversity, improve the balance of the farm ecosystem, soil fertility and water quality, and help build resilience to climate change. The second is to value agricultural work and encourage a return to the countryside and genuine farming. Productive ecosystems can strengthen the agricultural economy while protecting the land. Our story begins with a vineyard lovingly tended within a balanced ecosystem.”
The karst terrain is limestone-based, with clay in places and considerable variation. Farming practices encourage living, humus-rich soil that naturally nourishes the vines. Grapes are hand-picked into small crates and taken straight to the cellar by cart. Fermentation always begins spontaneously with indigenous yeasts.
Only porous, natural materials are used for winemaking: natural concrete, ceramic amphorae and wood. The growers see the gentle exchange of oxygen with the surroundings as essential to keeping the wine alive. They follow the biodynamic calendar and lunar phases throughout production. Winter cold allows the wines to settle naturally, and bottling is manual.
“Through our wine, we want to express our personality as growers in harmony with grape and terroir. We want to make natural, honest wine that moves you with every sip.”
The farm also has a food forest, a productive woodland rich in biodiversity. Different plant groups grow together to create a balanced, resilient ecosystem, intended to provide fruit and vegetables without pesticides.
