MONFRÀ began in 2016 at the meeting point of wine, art and nature. Paolo and Sara imagined a place to explore creative and agricultural practices respectful of people and the natural world.
Certified organic since 2019, the farm covers approximately four hectares. Vineyards and a family olive grove sit alongside woodland of oak, lime, horse chestnut, laburnum, black locust and hackberry, with broom, wild roses, bay, cornelian cherry and hawthorn.
This varied vegetation shelters tits, woodpeckers, blackbirds, magpies, jays and robins, joined in spring by migratory birds such as hoopoes and bee-eaters. Two small ponds support amphibians and dragonflies and offer water to passing birds and mammals.
From May into autumn, many kinds of roses provide colour and fragrance, followed by bright hips through winter. Sheltered by fruit trees, the vegetable garden combines mainly old varieties with herbs, flowers and spontaneous plants, providing food and refuge for bees, butterflies, green lizards and small mammals.
