La Rocchetta di Mondondone grew from Stefano Banfi’s dream of a life closer to nature in the heart of Oltrepò Pavese. Leaving the city behind, he established an estate rooted in local traditions, tending twelve hectares of vineyards and olive groves on the hills of Mondondone.
Organic principles guide production: grapes are harvested by hand, green manure supports soil fertility, and plant protection is limited to copper and sulphur. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and unfiltered bottling preserve the grapes’ character with minimal intervention.
In 2013, an environmentally conscious cellar was created by restoring an old stable and hay barn, integrating it into the hillside and retaining the landscape’s rural character. The estate’s environmental commitments include reducing plastic, using green manure and introducing chickens and sheep to help manage the land and insects naturally.
From full-bodied reds to elegant sparkling wines, the range expresses local soils, traditional methods and the spirit of Oltrepò Pavese.
