La del Terreno is Julia’s tribute to Monastrell, the native grape of her home region of Murcia. After studying agricultural engineering and pursuing her passion for music, she first encountered viticulture in Germany’s Palatinate while studying music there. That experience inspired her to return to Spain for a degree in oenology, followed by practical experience in Spanish and Argentine wineries.
Further international experience included studies at Humboldt University in Berlin and a master’s degree in sustainability. Julia eventually settled in Bullas, in north-western Murcia, selecting old Monastrell vineyards within a protected natural landscape. In 2016 she built a small modular winery close to the vines, drawing on local traditions: fermentation in concrete vats and terracotta jars, and ageing in glass demijohns and large barrels.
Working closely with the landowners, Julia tends the vineyards by hand and organically. Her restrained winemaking, without additives, seeks to express Monastrell and the essence of her homeland.
