Ilaria Addis is a Sardinian winegrower who has turned a longstanding family legacy into a personal project devoted to caring for her land. Her story begins in Luras, in the heart of Gallura, where the family’s vineyard history includes the small plots of Billella and Ladas.
For generations, wine formed part of the Addis family’s livelihood: initially for home consumption, then, from the 1960s, through sales of grapes grown in new vineyards on the hills around Luras. By the early 2000s, the farm covered around 60 hectares, including 30 under vine, supplying the local cooperative where her uncle Dino made Vermentino di Gallura.
Ilaria’s path took her through an architecture degree, with a dissertation on the vineyards of Luras, training in Bordeaux and a sommelier qualification. With encouragement and advice from her friend Alessandro Dettori, she completed the family cellar in 2021 and embarked on her own natural wine project.
She farms two hectares of the family property at Manisfalata, within the Vermentino di Gallura DOCG area, between 220 and 291 metres above sea level. The free-draining alluvial soils are managed according to biodynamic principles, without copper or sulphur treatments. Eighty sheep graze between the rows to keep vegetation in check.
In the cellar, fermentation starts spontaneously with native yeasts. The wines mature on their lees in stainless steel, with small additions of sulphur dioxide only at bottling. Ilaria Addis shares the values of Evoluzione Naturale, bringing a personal, contemporary voice to Gallura’s winemaking heritage.
