I Forestieri brings together Dario, from Pisa, and Ezequiel, originally from Argentina, whose paths crossed at Roccatederighi in Alta Maremma. Both wanted to express themselves through a wine of their own.
Ezequiel began recovering seventy- to eighty-year-old plots around Sassofortino and Roccatederighi, hearing through local older growers of vineyards about to be abandoned or uprooted. Dario shared his love of old vines, natural rhythms and wines rooted in this landscape. What began almost playfully grew to around three hectares.
Vines share these small ‘gardens’ with olive and fruit trees. Biodynamic preparations and green manure support farming that respects the place welcoming them. Preserving the vineyards also means protecting the area’s historical and cultural heritage.
In the cellar, grapes ferment with indigenous yeasts; the only addition is a very small amount of sulphur dioxide before bottling.
