Fontorfio takes its name from an old spring below the vineyards and house that Igino Brutti and his family chose as their home. The farm is in Cossignano, a small medieval village in inland Marche, between the Sibillini mountains and the sea.

Agriculture has long shaped the village. Fontorfio traditionally grew olives, cereals and grapes, made wine and kept livestock. Igino’s family continues the earlier farmers’ work, using predominantly manual methods, avoiding chemical inputs and seeking to preserve the landscape.

The farmhouse occupies the property’s highest point and stands partly above an old brick kiln. Some sections are centuries old; many families, including several sharecropping households at once, have lived here. Restoration uncovered blocked doors and windows and former fireplaces. When Igino arrived, the ground floor contained both a cellar and a stable, the latter also accessible through a trapdoor from above.

In the cellar, no selected yeasts or elaborate winemaking techniques are used, and wines are not filtered. Sulphur dioxide is limited to the minimum considered necessary, with none added in some cases.

Fontorfio shares the vision of Evoluzione Naturale. Come and discover their stories and wines.
