The Chasselay family’s winegrowing history in Beaujolais is documented as far back as 1464. The estate is based in Châtillon, in the Rhône department, where the traditions of southern Burgundy meet the distinctive heritage of Beaujolais.
Respect for the land, care for the fruit and authenticity guide its work. Fifteen hectares of certified organic vineyards include plots in Côte de Brouilly, Brouilly, Fleurie, Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent. Clay, limestone and granite soils give the sites different identities; some plots contain vines more than a century old.
Gamay, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are grown using massal selection to preserve the vineyards’ inherited diversity. Grapes are harvested by hand, followed by spontaneous fermentation and traditional semi-carbonic maceration. No selected yeasts are used, and sulphur dioxide is added sparingly, only when needed.
The wines are juicy, lively and firmly rooted in their origins. Domaine Chasselay and Callmewine, which presents the estate in Italy, share the values of Evoluzione Naturale.
