Denis Montanar comes from four generations of farmers. His own involvement began in 1989, when he rented his grandfather’s vineyards and began running the farm. His great-grandfather had already worked many of those same vineyards as a sharecropper in the early twentieth century.
Denis later bought two hectares and planted vines. In 1995 he expanded by acquiring a further 10.5 hectares and their farmhouses. This inspired a project and regional identity named after the historic hamlet: Borc Dodon in Friulian, or Borgo Dodone.
In 2013 he adopted his own name, Denis Montanar, as the estate’s brand, alongside the names of the three places where he farms: Borc Dodon, Borc Sandrigo and Scodovacca. Wine labels and the estate’s communications changed accordingly.
The vineyards have been farmed entirely organically since 1996. Grapes are hand-picked into crates, wines ferment with native yeasts and no fining is carried out. Denis follows the Renaissance du Terroir protocol, with its defined approach to growing grapes and making wine.
Denis Montanar shares the vision of Evoluzione Naturale. Come and discover his stories and wines.
