“Wine has always been a great passion of mine, inherited from my grandparents, who taught me the most important values connected with the land.” This is how Daniele Cesca introduces his farm.
The estate began in 2016 on the Cappuccini hill in Moncalvo, in the heart of Piedmont’s Monferrato. Driven by love for the land and a wish to celebrate the area, Daniele started with three hectares of Barbera and Freisa and a vegetable garden, farmed organically with Ecogruppo certification.
In 2017 he planted three Slarina plots of 4,000 square metres each on the Cappuccini hill. Each occupies a different position and soil: sand and clay lower down, marl with sandstone fragments on an intermediate north-facing site, and fossil-rich ground at the summit.
The first harvest in 2020 was picked into crates in two stages: the first at the end of August, leaving one bunch per shoot, and the second in early September. Vinification in stainless steel brings out the distinct characteristics of the variety and each soil.
Daniele creates the label artwork by hand, then has it printed on recycled paper made with grape seeds.
