Crealto began in 2007 with two people who shared a love of wine and rural life. They met on a sommelier course in Genoa and, a few years later, left office jobs for Piedmont, taking over an established Monferrato estate known especially for its Grignolino.
The farm lies in Alfiano Natta, in northern Monferrato, on pale, silty soils long valued for winegrowing. Its wines aim to combine structure and elegance, immediate appeal and the ability to age.
The vineyards have followed organic farming standards from the first harvest, complemented by practices such as green manuring and attention to the lunar calendar. Pruning receives particular care and all harvesting is by hand. Around five hectares surround the farm, bordered by woodland, with some vines more than sixty years old.
The underground cellar beside the vineyards houses stainless-steel fermentation tanks, large wooden casks and terracotta jars, used since 2010. Spontaneous fermentation, no fining or filtration and minimal sulphur dioxide preserve the character of the grapes, their origin and each vintage.
