Colle San Giuseppe rises on a spur of Monte Maddalena in Mompiano, once an independent municipality and part of Brescia since 1884. This area, known as Ronco, has a long history of vine growing.

In a charter dated 31 May 841, Bishop Ramperto reorganised the Mompiano estates, much of which Charlemagne had previously granted to the monks of Tours. He assigned them to the Benedictine monks of San Faustino in Brescia, specifying their purpose: ‘Ad vineas faciendas et lignaria componenda’ — the establishment of vineyards and woodland.

The Pasolini were among the families who worked with the Benedictines and helped form the settlement of Mompiano, which became a parish in 1388. They were recorded as vine growers rather than woodcutters. That tradition continued through grandfather Giuseppe and father Luigi, who modernised the vineyard practices later refined by Mario Pasolini, who died a few years ago.

Today, a passion for farming — particularly natural viticulture — has prompted agricultural entrepreneur Rossano Bellettati to take on the land and cellar, hoping to carry this centuries-old story into the future.

The road is long and full of unexpected challenges. Step by step, that passion helps keep alive the memory of the work and dedication handed down by the Pasolini family.

Colle San Giuseppe shares the vision behind Evoluzione Naturale. Come and hear their stories and taste their wines.
