The Giglioli family has lived and grown vines on the hills around medieval Certaldo, Boccaccio’s hometown, since 1770. Conversion to organic and biodynamic farming began in the early 1980s, followed by Demeter certification in 1995.
Casale grows local varieties, principally Sangiovese for reds and Trebbiano Toscano for whites, with respect for its history and environment. Wine is made exclusively from the estate’s eight hectares, without cellar additives apart from low levels of sulphites.
Patient maturation can extend for decades in large chestnut barrels. Annual production is approximately 25,000–30,000 bottles, in a traditional style that seeks to express their origins. Casale belongs to VinNatur and FIVI, the Italian federation of independent winegrowers.
Giuseppe Giglioli is the first documented sharecropping winegrower at Casale, in a contract dated 9 January 1770. A range of rare wines honours him and the family.
Casale shares the vision of Evoluzione Naturale. Come and discover their stories and wines.
