Bruno and Elena Vezzoli left Lombardy for Umbria and chose Preggio as their new home. The abandoned farm had overgrown fields and olive trees hidden by oak woodland. They began clearing, planting vines and learning through every course they could find.
Their place remains a little untidy and less orderly than they might wish, but to them it is still the most beautiful place in the world.
Preggio is a tiny certified organic farm in wooded hills north of Lake Trasimeno, at 500 metres. It produces wine, olive oil and honey. Its 2.5-hectare vineyard was planted in 2008 and 2009 with Sangiovese Grosso and Grechetto.
Shaban prunes with Elena’s help, while Abderrazak handles treatments and many other tasks. Their aim is to bring healthy, ripe grapes to harvest. Seeing the finished wine in bottle still feels like magic.
