Arribas Wine began in 2017 after a visit to Bemposta, a small village in the municipality of Mogadouro in north-eastern Portugal. Its founders were captivated by the region’s ancient vineyards, distinctive soils and climate, and living farming traditions, and decided to create a project rooted in this land.

The first wines were made in a small garage converted into a private cellar. The main winery is now in historic Bemposta, built directly on bedrock: naturally cool and stable, it provides a setting for gentle, thoughtful winemaking.

Arribas Wine works exclusively with old vineyards, aged 70–100 years, where red and white varieties share the same rows in keeping with local tradition. They include Tinta Gorda, Bastardo, Serrana, Verdelho and other rare grapes. A Mediterranean climate tempered by continental influences, with cold winters and short summers, gives the wines vibrant freshness and a strong sense of place.

Cellar work is simple and restrained: a vertical basket press, spontaneous fermentation, ageing in French and American oak, and no unnecessary manipulation. The intention is to preserve the authentic voice of a little-known region with considerable potential.

The principal label, Saroto, takes its name from a local word for an animal with a docked tail: a symbol of resilience, regeneration and continuity. It expresses the winery’s mission to preserve and revive the old vineyards of Arribas do Douro through sustainable, traditional practices.

Arribas Wine is represented at Evoluzione Naturale through its collaboration with Callmewine, bringing wines with a strong and authentic regional identity.
