Andrea Occhipinti discovered Gradoli and its vineyards while studying agriculture at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo, making them the subject of his thesis. In 2004 he began his own project on Lake Bolsena’s north-western shore, around 450 metres above sea level.
His aim is to preserve and celebrate Gradoli’s native Aleatico and Grechetto Rosso. Massal selection identifies vines suited to the volcanic soils, while careful harvesting, transport, drying and cellar work combine tradition with experimentation.
Andrea makes Aleatico in several styles to explore its versatility. The original profile describes vines aged fifteen to thirty-five years, whose fruit is intended to express both variety and volcanic ground.
Organic vineyard care and minimal cellar intervention guide the work, without chemical additives or winemaking aids.
