Andrea Barbieri founded his estate in 2020 after discovering a passion for vineyards and wine. He began with 4,000 square metres at Aymavilles, in the Aosta Valley, at 640 metres: a small plot purchased in 2019 and further rented land. The first vintage produced around 1,200 bottles across three labels.
The project has grown to approximately one hectare, divided into tiny parcels in Nus, Sarre and Aymavilles. The original profile describes vines ranging from around five to more than sixty years old. Most plantings are red, often with several varieties growing together, as was traditional locally. For this reason, Andrea usually vinifies each parcel separately.
Varieties include Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Moscato, Petite Arvine planted in 2022, Petit Rouge, Cornalin, Gamay and Fumin. At the time of the profile, the evolving range comprised almost ten labels, with quantities and blends changing as Andrea explored his direction.
Most whites are skin-macerated, while reds often include stems when their condition allows. Andrea aims to make wines that resemble his personality as much as their place of origin.
Grass is cut with a brushcutter, generally twice a year, preserving ground cover and encouraging spontaneous vegetation rather than sown green manure. A backpack sprayer is used for a small number of treatments based on nettle, horsetail and garlic infusions or macerates, supported by sulphur and a little copper at the most sensitive times of the season.
The cellar is on the outskirts of Aosta. Fermentation uses the yeasts on the grapes, with a pied de cuve starter prepared from fruit picked around five days earlier. Wines are neither filtered nor fined, and only a minimal amount of sulphur dioxide is added before bottling.
