’A Vita is Francesco Maria De Franco and Laura Violino’s return to farming and wine. After studying away from Calabria and building a career as an architect in San Marino, Francesco left that pace behind and returned with Laura, originally from Friuli, to his family’s land.
Following wine studies, ’A Vita began in 2008 with four vineyards totalling eight hectares, farmed organically. Synthetic inputs are avoided; copper, sulphur and natural agents are used sparingly. Green manure and limited soil cultivation protect fertility and biodiversity.
Gaglioppo and other native grapes express the historic Cirò area. For Francesco and Laura, being growers means acting responsibly towards the land. Alongside Cirò Revolution, they work to preserve an agricultural identity threatened by the economic pressures that can lead to vineyard abandonment.
