โEvoluzione Naturale in Grottaglie: Apulia is preparing to toast to the art of natural wine
On January 28 and 29, 2024, natural wine enthusiasts will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in an unprecedented oenological experience in Grottaglie (TA). "Evoluzione Naturale" will return to the evocative setting of the Ancient Capuchin Convent, transforming the centuries-old structure into a temple dedicated to natural wines. After two years of meticulous restoration, the fifth edition of "Evoluzione Naturale" returns to its original venue, the Ancient Capuchin Convent. This location, nestled in the wild Gravina del Fullonese, boasts a history rich in transformations: founded in the 16th century by Capuchin friars, it has gone through different eras and roles, from a poorhouse to a womenโs boarding school. Today, the ancient building stands as a true cultural center, a living testament to the historical and architectural heritage of Grottaglie. More than 60 winemakers from all over Italy, as well as Austria, Spain, Slovenia, and Lebanon, will gather in this culturally rich setting, just steps from the historic heart of the city. Over 400 labels will be available for tasting, offering professionals and enthusiasts alike the chance to explore a true oenological treasure. "Evoluzione Naturale" is not only about wine, but a full immersion into the stories, techniques, and artistry that characterize artisanal wine production. The fifth edition is further enriched by the introduction of the "Fuori Salone Evoluzione Naturale" on January 27, 2024. This itinerant event will transform the historic city of Grottaglie, famous for its ceramic traditions and generous vineyards, into a stage for tastings and exclusive encounters. Each venue will host some of the protagonists of "Evoluzione Naturale," offering the chance to meet winemakers, savor their wines, and share experiences in a setting of complete relaxation. On Sunday, January 28, following the official opening, the thematic workshop "2022 and 2023: Two Vintages, a Difficult Synthesis" will take place. Moderated by Matteo Gallello, wine journalist, taster, and lecturer, the workshop will feature Mario Malagoli, professor at the University of Padua, and agronomic consultant Paolo Ravano. Together, they will share reflections on soil management and the understanding of vine physiology, offering unique insights into two extreme vintages. On January 28 and 29, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, the tasting counters will officially open to industry professionals and wine enthusiasts. Visitors will discover wines crafted by winemakers who embrace the philosophy of respectful vine cultivation, following sustainability principles throughout the entire production chain. Alongside the vintners, food artisans will present their creations paired with fine glasses. A tasting workshop, on Sunday, January 28 at 1:30 pm, conducted by Matteo Gallelloโone of the foremost experts on the natural wine movement in Italy and abroadโwill spark thoughts and discussions through the tasting of a selection of wines from the 2014 and 2015 vintages. A unique opportunity to explore the climatic differences and the deeply contrasting results of two contiguous years. "Evoluzione Naturale" is more than a wine event; it is a declaration of commitment to sustainability and authenticity in the world of wine. The fifth edition promises to be a moment of discovery, a journey into the heart of taste, where past and present blend into a symphony of flavors and culture.
